Saudi women's rights activists: detention, torture and trial

On 15 May 2019, marking one year exactly since the first wave of arrests targeting prominent Saudi women’s rights activists began in 2018, ALQST and Amnesty UK hosted an event exploring this ongoing case and the state of human rights in Saudi Arabia. 

Held at Amnesty UK, it featured an amazing all female panel: Layla Moran MP (MP for Oxford West and Abingdon and member of the Detention Review Panel for women activist detainees in Saudia Arabia), Melanie Gingell (Lawyer and Board Member of Gulf Centre for Human Rights), Safa Al Ahmad (Award-winning Saudi journalist and filmmaker), Taif Alkhudary (Legal Officer, MENA Rights Group) and Dana Ahmed (Saudi Arabia Researcher, Amnesty International).
